  • Any injuries or limitations — knees, hips, back, anything
  • Your timeline — when you want to be ready

OAT — Before You Book / FAQ
Before You Book

Common Questions.

Everything you might want to know before booking. If your question is not here, the contact form below goes straight to us.

  • Honestly, because our time is the bottleneck, not our willingness to help. We were doing a lot of free calls, and the volume was getting in the way of building better programs and supporting the athletes already inside OAT.

The $85 makes sure the people booking are serious and gives Mikey the bandwidth to actually be present on the call. If you sign up for any OAT program within 30 days of your session, your $85 is fully credited back at checkout. If you are planning to train with us, the call effectively costs nothing.

The credit applies to any program in the OAT library: Backpacker's Bootcamp, Trek Prep, Trail Ready Challenge, Summit Strength, Powder Prep, Alpine Touring, KneeHab, or a custom program.

  • No. Active OAT members get a free 20-minute Kickoff Call when they join, plus access to our monthly community calls and direct coach messaging through the OAT Fit app.

The paid Strategy Session is for prospective members who want a 1-on-1 conversation before committing to a program.

  • Mikey will ask about your goals, training history, current fitness, any injuries or limitations, and your timeline. Then we work through your specific situation: what program fits, what to expect, how to fuel and pace, gear questions, schedule questions, anything on your mind.

You leave with a clear recommendation and, within 24 hours, a personalized Training Brief PDF so you have everything in writing.

  • That is exactly the kind of thing the Strategy Session is built for. You do not need to be ready to commit. You just need to be ready for an honest conversation about where you are and where you want to go.

If after talking it through, the answer is "not yet," that is a totally valid outcome. You will leave with clarity on what to work on first, and the door stays open.

  • Often yes, but it depends on the specifics. Mikey is a Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist and most OAT programs include modifications for common issues like knee pain, hip mobility, post-surgery recovery, and back sensitivity. KneeHab is built specifically for knee health and rehab.

The Strategy Session is the right place to get a real answer for your situation. Be specific about what you are dealing with, and we will be specific back.

  • If you are 55 or older: Absolutely. Mikey is a NASM Certified Senior Fitness Specialist, and a large percentage of OAT athletes are in the 50 to 70 range and training for serious objectives. Age is not a limiter, deconditioning is. We meet you where you are.

If you have never done structured training before: Yes. Most OAT programs begin with a Stabilization Phase that teaches movement quality and builds an aerobic foundation before any load or intensity is added. You do not need a fitness background to start.

If you are already fit and training hard: Also yes. The programs scale up significantly across phases and are designed for serious mountain objectives. The Strategy Session is a great place to talk through where you would slot in.

  • Yes. Reschedule any time with at least 24 hours notice using the link in your confirmation email.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are non-refundable, since the slot was held for you. No-shows forfeit the session. Life happens, and we will work with you when it does, but please give us a heads up.

  • No, please do not book a paid session for a quick question. Use the contact form at the bottom of this page and we respond within 48 hours, often sooner.

We would rather answer your question over email than have you book a call you do not need.

A Note.

For anything that does not need a full session. Injury questions, gear thoughts, "is this program right for me," whatever it is. We respond within 48 hours, often sooner. If we are slow, we are probably out training or on an expedition. We will get back to you.
